Buckthorn Removal
Common Buckthorn (Rhamnus cathartica) is a small deciduous tree or large shrub that can grow to over 19 feet in height. It has dull green oval-shaped leaves, and the classic feature is the small thorn at the tip of each branch. Let’s be honest, buckthorn removal isn’t a fun job. Buckthorn is an aggressive invasive plant that can be a real challenge to control and eliminate.
The size and the quantity of the plants will determine which method we will use. Small seedling plants may be pulled by hand, however, larger plants will require a two-step process of cutting and chemically treating the stumps. Buckthorn can be stubborn and seeds in the soil can remain viable for up to five years so follow up is required to keep this pesky plant out of your yard.
